Manage Modifiers

Who can use this feature?

☑️Location Owners

The Modifiers in unTill Air can be configured by 'Article items' or 'Text item'. While creating a Modifier, you need to add 'Article items' from the list of existing Articles or 'Text item' by typing the needed text message. You can also combine 'Article item' and 'Text item' into one Modifier to offer relevant choices to the customer.

'Article item' can have set prices. Conversely, 'Text item' cannot be priced and function as messages.

Example of the modifier with the 'Article items' and 'Text items':

  • Pepper sauce - 'Article item' (with a price)

  • Truffle sauce - 'Article item' (with a price)

  • No sauce - 'Text item' (no price)

The option categories in unTill Air facilitate the sorting and grouping of existing Modifiers at your location. The option category selected for your Modifier doesn't influence on the ordering process in the POS.

Article item Modifier

To create this Modifier, please follow these steps:

First you need to create an Article that will be used as an 'Article item'.

  • Navigate to Products > Articles.

  • Create a new Article. Then you will be able to add this Article as a 'Article item' to your Modifier.

Tip: You can create a separate Department dedicated to the Articles that will be used as item Modifiers.

Now, you can proceed directly to creating a Modifier.

  1. Navigate to Products > Modifiers.

  2. Click 'Add new modifier'.

  3. Provide a name for your new Modifier.

  4. Select 'Option category'.

Note: 'Option category' doesn't influence the appearance of the Modifier in the POS. 'Option category' allows you to sort your Modifiers in the Back Office.

Option categories:

  • Free add-ons

  • Paid add-ons

  • Choice

  • Cooking instructions

  • Messages

  • Other

Tip: If you select the relevant option category tab on the Modifiers page before clicking the 'Add new modifier' button, there will be no need to specify the option category again when creating a new Modifier. This allows you to create Modifiers with enhanced ease.

  1. Click 'Add article item'.

  2. Select the Article that will be used as a Article item.

  3. Optional: Set a price for the Article.

  4. Assign a Modifier to a specific Article or specific Department.

If you assign a Modifier to a Department, you need to specify its type: either 'Free add-on' or 'Paid add-on'. These types enable you to sort the Modifiers in the POS using the 'Paid add-on' and 'Free add-on' buttons.

Note that each Department can have only one Modifier assigned per type. Therefore, you can assign one 'Free add-on' type Modifier and one 'Paid add-on' type Modifier to each Department.

Note: You cannot assign Modifiers of the equal type to one Department.

Also, you can directly assign existing Modifiers to a Department on the page where the Department is created. For details, refer to this page.

If you assign a Modifier to an Article, you need to select between two possibilities: 'Optional Modifier' or 'Mandatory Modifier'.

Type of ModifierDescription

Optional

The Modifier will be available, and the POS User can select it but this Modifier can be ignored and not ordered.

Mandatory

The Modifier must be always selected, and the Article will be sold with this applied Modifier. Once you order this Modifier, the pop-up with the list of Mandatory Modifiers will appear. You cannot proceed with ordering without selecting one of the Mandatory Modifiers.

When you create a Modifier that includes multiple items, such as Article items and Text items, and assign it to an Article, the following rules apply in the POS:

  • For Mandatory Modifiers, only one item from the Modifier can be ordered. However, for Optional Modifiers, multiple items from the Modifier can be ordered.

Note: Optional Modifiers cannot be utilised while ordering a Menu or Combi deal. Only the Mandatory Modifiers can be applied.

  1. If you assign a Modifier to a Department, specify the Modifier type ('Free add-on' or 'Paid add-on'). If you assign a Modifier to an Article, choose between the 'Optional' and the 'Mandatory' applying of the Modifier in the POS while taking the order.

Configuring a Mandatory single Modifier and assigning it to Article means that a specific Article will be sold always with this Modifier. Therefore, it may become necessary to set several Mandatory Modifiers to provide a decent choice for customers.
